Rookie Joe Kelly (1-1) was strong once again as he filled in for injured Cardinals starter Jaime Garica, with the exception of a three run homer in the third innings. The offense was unable to pick him up and the Cardinals lost to the Colorado Rockies 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Tyler Colvin of the Rox, hit a three-run homer in the third inning, launching a changeup deep to right for his tenth of the year. Colvin homered after catcher Yadier Molina made a wild throw to second on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Jeff Francis that would have resulted in a forceout.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, on Matt Holliday’s 14th homer. Holliday is hitting .500 (30 for 60) in the last 15 games with four homers, 18 RBIs and nine doubles, and has five homers and 13 RBIs in 19 career games against his old team.
