The heat has forced a restriction on a downtown St. Louis tradition. The St. Louis Metropolitan Taxicab Commission has ordered horse-drawn carriage companies to keep their buggies off the streets until 8 p.m.

Companies running the carriages stand to lose a lot of money during a busy holiday weekend, but the extreme heat is a danger to horses just like it is to humans.

Normally the carriages are running before noon and throughout the day.
