Deadly heat is going to stay in Missouri well into next week…with triple-digit temperatures dominating. The weather service says even northern Missouri will see temperatures topping 100—Maryville is to be 102 today, Kirksville at 103. Both cities will see temperatures near 100 through next Wednesday.
Hannibal expects 105 today, 103 tomorrow.
Kansas City expects to hit 105 today. The Lake of the Ozarks is expecting 100-plus temperatures every day for the next week. Columbia and Jefferson City are the same with a top of 106 today. Triple digits are expected in Rolla for the next week.
The Weather Service forecasts 108 today in Union and St. Louis, with 101 to 105 for the coming week.
Cape Girardeau is looking for 101 to 107 for the next week, with today the hottest.
Several cities have instituted opening burning and fireworks bans because of the ongoing hot, dry weather. The number is increasing daily. The continued scorching weather also could start straining water systems. Cape Girardeau’s daily water usage has increased by one-third because of heat and lack of rain.
Farther south, the Mississippi River level has dropped so low that a ferry linking southeast Missouri with Kentucky has stopped operations.
