Kansas City is slowly giving up on the place that was once so important that it attracted the Republican National Convention. The city council is thinking about ending the management contract for Kemper Arena, which has been overshadowed by the Sprint Center. Kemper drew only 16 events covering 30 days last year and has been used for only 22 days this year. The city will keep its ownership of Kemper and can’t let it just fall apart. That’s where the American Royal has many of its events, and the city has a contract with the American Royal through 2045.
