It’s not too early for deer hunters to start thinking about the next season.  Sign up for the managed hunts is just days away. The conservation department is opening a six-week internet registration period Sunday for people wanting to take part in the 99 managed hunts that start in September.  The managed hunts are held in specified areas including state and urban parks, wildlife refuges, and conservation areas.

People wanting to take part have until August 15th to go the the department internet site–mdc.mo.gov—and sign up.  More people will register than will be allowed to hunt. The department will choose participants with a drawing and will notify the winners.

Permits will be issued after September 14.  Hunters can apply for only one of the hunts each year. But as many as six people can apply as a group. Deer taken in the managed hunts do not count toward the regular season bag limit.

More information and the application forms are at mdc.mo.gov/node/872.  The department will begin accepting applications Sunday.
