The St. Louis Cardinals have activated outfielder Jon Jay and first baseman/outfielder Matt Carpenter off the 15-day disabled list.

A sprained right shoulder had kept Jay sidelined since May 16, while Carpenter was recovering from a strained right oblique that sidelined him on May 23.

Jay was initially hurt and missed six games after crashing into the outfield wall during an April 19 game. He returned on April 27, but went on the DL two weeks later.

In 27 games this season entering Friday’s action, Jay has batted .343 with a pair of homers and eight runs batted in. He was 3-for-7 with a homer, triple and three runs batted in during a two-game injury rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis.

Carpenter was also at Memphis for three games and appeared in a pair of games for Double-A Springfield during his rehab assignment. In 39 games at the big league level this season, Carpenter is hitting .288 with three homers and 20 runs batted in.

The Cardinals optioned first baseman Matt Adams and outfielder Adron Chambers to Memphis.
