While the Cardinals had the day off on Monday, Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter was hard at work throwing another successful side session. While the club is optimistic, there has not been a timetable set for his return.  The next test for Carpenter will come on Wednesday when he throws another session in Detroit. If that goes well with no holdups, the team will schedule a round of live batting practice for Carpenter against his teammates.

Once pitchers start throwing live BP, they are anywhere from 2-3 weeks to pitching in a game. That doesn’t mean that Carpenter will be in a major league game at that point. Since Carpenter has had no spring training at all, Carpenter would need begin a pitching routine like he would in March. I think it would be optimistic to think that Carpenter could be ready by the beginning of August.  Carpenter spent three months not throwing at all to rest his shoulder.

Meanwhile outfielder Jon Jay, who is rehabbing his sore shoulder, will make a start tonight for AAA Memphis in Omaha to face the Royals AAA affiliate.
