Jason Kipnis hit a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right field for a three run homer off Cardinals closer Jason Motte in the ninth. That broke a 1-1 tie lifting the Cleveland Indians to a 4-1 win over the Cardinals.

The loss ruined a solid major league debut for starting pitcher Joe Kelly, who just a year ago was playing A ball in Florida. Kelly went five innings, allowing just a run on seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Cleveland scored their first run off a sac fly in the third after Carlos Beltran gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the first with his 18th homer of the season off Ubaldo Jimenez.
