Allen Craig homered in the eighth inning after the Mets tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, and the Cardinals hung on for a 5-4 win Monday afternoon at Citi Field in New York. The Cardinals broke a 1-1 tie by scoring two in the seventh. Mark Rzepczynski came on in relief of Kyle Lohse and gave up a two run homer to Scott Hairston tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the frame.

In the eighth, Matt Holliday led off with a single and with one out, Craig homered to left. It was his sixth homer in just 16 games this season, making the score, 5-3.  The Mets ralliled in the eighth and had runners on second and third against Edquardo Sanchez, before getting a run back on a sac fly.  Jason Motte was called and struck out David Wright. Motte pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two more for his ninth save.
