Yadier Molina belted a grand slam in the first inning Sunday and the St. Louis Cardinals cruised to an 8-3 victory over Philadelphia.

Skip Schumaker and Matt Holliday singled and David Freese drew a two-out walk off Phillies starter Roy Halladay (4-5) to load the bases in the opening frame.

Molina followed by lofting a fly ball to center field that just made it over the fence for a grand slam.

Carlos Beltran added a three-run shot for the Cards, who avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the Phillies with the victory.

Adam Wainwright (4-5) surrendered one run on seven hits over six innings, walking none and striking out two to earn the victory.

Halladay was removed after only two innings, yielding four runs on four hits.

Juan Pierre went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI singles for the Phillies.
