Phil Hughes tossed six innings and the Yankees bullpen then took over Tuesday to preserve New York’s 3-2 comeback win over Kansas City.

Hughes (4-5) was touched for a pair of runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Cory Wade, Boone Logan, Cody Eppley and Clay Rapada combined for two innings of scoreless relief and Rafael Soriano closed out the victory with his third save for the Yankees.

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, New York tied the game on Derek Jeter’s RBI single and went ahead when the next batter, Curtis Granderson, drove in Russell Martin with a groundout.

New York evened its three-game series with the win.

Kansas City’s Luke Hochevar (3-5) yielded three runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander fanned eight.

Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for the Royals.
