Former NFL great Junior Seau, who played most of his career at linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, has died. He was 43. The San Diego Union Tribune reported a 911 call came from Seau’s Oceanside home at 10 a.m. local time. Oceanside Police Chief Frank McCoy says Seau’s girlfriend reported finding him unconscious with a gunshot wound to the chest Wednesday. McCoy says lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.

Seau, who played for 20 seasons in the NFL, mostly for the San Diego Chargers, was named to the Pro Bowl 12 times and First Team All-Pro six times. He also played for the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots. His last season was in New England in 2009.
