University of Missouri All-American tight end Michael Egnew has been taken in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Egnew, who ranks 9th alltime at Mizzou with 147 career receptions, was taken with the 15th pick of Friday’s third round, and was the 78th pick overall in the draft.

Egnew is the third Tiger All-American tight end to be drafted in the last five years, joining previous MU All-Americans Martin Rucker (2008 – 4th round, pick No. 111 by Cleveland) and Chase Coffman (2009 – 3rd round, pick No. 98 overall by Cincinnati). Egnew becomes the 21st player to play under Head Coach Gary Pinkel at Mizzou to be drafted, including the 13th in the last five years.

Only former MU legend Kellen Winslow was taken higher in the draft at the tight end position, when he was the No. 13 overall player in the first round of the 1979 draft by the San Diego Chargers.
