MoDOT budget cuts means there will be fewer work zones throughout Missouri this summer. That might be welcome news to summer travelers, but it’s not really a good thing since it means less work is being put into our roads and bridges.

Highway commissioner Rudy Farber says the highway program has dropped off from 1.2 billion dollars to about 700 million. And he says it will be decreasing even more.

Transportation director Kevin Keith says MoDOT will need to find some 300 million dollars over the next five years to free up enough money to match the federal highway dollars, or risk losing that funding as well.
