Many post offices in Missouri will not extend retail hours on April 17, the official tax day. The U.S. Post Office says customers waiting to mail their tax returns are encouraged to mail early in the day, especially since there might be lines for mailing supplies and postage.

Spokeswoman Valerie Martin says, “Customers are reminded the most common mistakes Americans make in mailing their forms are not including enough postage and not providing the correct IRS mailing address. After the first ounce — which usually covers about four, letter-sized sheets — mailers need to add 20 cents for each additional ounce. But if your envelope is larger than letter-size (max length 11 ½”, height 6 1/8”, thickness 1/4”), the price starts at 90 cents for a First Class large envelope.
