The “Your Vote Counts” campaign has suspended its initiative petition drive to make it harder for the legislature to overturn or change laws created by voter-approved initiatives.

Campaign Director Dane Waters made the announcement in response to comments by House Speaker Steven Tilley, who said legislators need to pay attention to voter wishes whenever possible. Tilley called on the campaign to be dropped as part of an effort by both sides to work together.

The campaign began largely in response to the legislature and Governor Nixon changing the law enacted by the passage of Proposition B in 2010, that enacted reforms to the dog breeding industry.
