Jeff Carter scored in the fourth round of a shootout and Jonathan Quick stopped Chris Stewart as the Kings slipped head into first place in the Pacific Division with a 1-0 victory against the St. Louis Blues at Staples Center. This was a much needed win for the Kings as the Blues eye the postseason with the number one seed in sight.

The matchup of the NHL’s two toughest defenses played out as advertised with Blues goalie Brian Elliott making 37 saves in regulation and overtime and Kings goaline Jonathan Quick making 35.

The Blues lead the overall standings with 101 points, two more than Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers and four more than Vancouver in the Western Conference. The Blues have gone 97:49 without scoring a goal for Elliott.
