The former CEO of McDonnell-Douglas Aerospace company has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 89, Sanford McDonald, who started working at the company his uncle had founded in 1948, earning $1.26 an hour, became the company president in 1971. McDonnell retired in 1988, nine years before McDonnell-Douglas was sold to Boeing.
