The state ethics commission has fined State Rep. Jonas Hughes almost $30,600 dollars for violating campaign finance laws. But the commission will let him off the hook if he pays $2,000 within 45 days and promises not to violate the rules again. The commission says Hughes used some campaign money for personal purposes and did not file three financial disclosure reports. The commission says he filed a fourth report late. He says he’ll appeal.
