The Royals today announced that catcher Salvador Perez underwent successful surgery of a torn meniscus in his left knee this morning at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, Calif. The procedure was performed by Dr. Clarence Shields and Royals’ head team physician Dr. Vincent Key of the KU Medical Center.  Upon completing the procedure, the medical team determined that Perez will likely need 12-14 weeks to fully recover from the injury.

Perez, 21, suffered the injury while warming up pitcher Jonathan Sanchez prior to the game against Cincinnati in Surprise on Tuesday. Perez felt some discomfort in the knee but attempted to play and made it through the first inning before needing to come out of the game.
