The St. Louis Rams have finalized a trade with the Washington Redskins that sends the second overall selection in the 2012 Draft to Washington.
“This is an exciting day for the Rams organization and the city of St. Louis,” Rams General Manager Les Snead said. “This trade gives us flexibility and options that are unprecedented in Rams history. However, this trade is an initial step in a process that requires multiple steps to achieve success. We will continue to work nonstop on free agency, the draft and Coach Fisher’s offseason program. We are excited about the 2012 season.”
In exchange for the second overall pick, the Rams received Washington’s first (sixth overall) and second (39th overall) round selections in this year’s draft as well as the Redskins’ first round selections in the 2013 and 2014 drafts. St. Louis now holds three of the top 39 picks in April’s draft (6, 33 and 39).
“With the interest other teams had in our first round pick, we found ourselves in a unique situation,” Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher said. “This trade gives us a great opportunity to immediately upgrade our team through the draft and then sustain our team’s improvement with valuable picks in future drafts.”
The 2012 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 26 and runs through Saturday, April 28.
