The summer gas spike begins as refineries start switching to more expensive summer blends amid recent tensions in the Middle East. Gas prices have spiked about 50 cents a gallon since January and hovers near the $4 mark in many parts of the state. Prices are expected to rise well over $4 a gallon in May and close to $5 a gallon during the summer’s peak travel months.
