Adam Wainwright feels fine. Chris Carpenter may take things slow. And Yadier Molina’s contract talks will have to wait. Those are the three big topics that get covered as we begin our look at Spring Training for the World Series Champion Cardinals.

Coming up on the one year anniversary of Tommy John surgery, Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright was happy with his first bullpen outing, a 33-pitch performance. “I certainly feel good,” Wainwright said. “I’m a very positive thinker. It’s the only way I roll. Guys are coming back [from Tommy John surgery] in 10 months sometime, so there’s no reason to think 12 months is too soon.”

MLB.com is reporting that the Cardinals coaching staff is considering modifying how they get Chris Carpenter ready for the 2012 season after he pitched 237 innings during the regular season and another 36 in the playoffs. GM John Mozeliak said it is important for the staff to listen to Carpenter as spring training moves forward, but for now, Carpenter is planning on the same routine as last year. Carpenter was also one of the 15 pitchers who threw yesterday.

Cardinal fans are hearing the same song and dance they heard this time last year with Albert Pujols. Yadier Molina wants to come back as a Cardinal next year when his current contract, which pays $7 million this season, runs out. However, Molina said there will be no home town discount and after two weeks of both sides discussing a contract for 2013 and beyond, nothing was finalized. It appears contract talks will start back up after the season.
