A proposal that could keep Missouri from becoming the Pill Mill capital of America could be headed to the senate for debate next week.

Missouri is one of only two states without a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, a system that has doctors report their prescriptions to the state health department and has pharmacists reporting  to the department when they fill those prescriptions.

The head of the Kansas program, Bob Twillman, says the program stops doctor shopping–the practice of getting prescriptions from several doctors and filing them at several pharmacies.  .

Twillman says half of the doctor shoppers in Kansas have moved to counties adjoining Missouri, or one county separated from Missouri.

The bill is expected to go to the Senate next week.  The sponsor is the chairman of the committee.
