T.J. Oshie scored in the overtime shootout and goalie Brian Elliott stopped all three New Jersey attempts to give the Blues a 4-3 shootout win over the Devils. Elliott stopped all 15 shots he faced after he came into relieve Jaroslav Halak who gave up three goals in a period and a half. Elliot has made a case for not only the team’s MVP, but how about the NHL’s MVP? He’s 17-5-2 a league-low 1.62 goals-against average and league-best .940 save percentage.
Shortly after the Blues took a 2-1 lead in the second, the Devils responded with two goals, prompting Ken Hitchcock to pull Halak. The move wasn’t necessarily a knock against the goalie, but perhaps more of a wake up call to the rest of the team. “I was a little bit surprised when I got the call, but you can kind of get the feeling that the guys weren’t responding the way they should and it’s as much a pick me up as it is anything else,” Elliott said. “There’s no real pressure on you. You just go out there and play and the guys respond for you. We did that, and I was able to a couple. We scored a big one.”
Chris Stewart, David Perron and Patrik Berglund scored goals for St. Louis, who now own an 11-0-2 record against Eastern Conference teams this season.
