The City of St. Louis has closed three day care centers run by members of a family. Those three and two others run by the same company are being audited by the state Department of Social Services.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the centers claim an average enrolment of almost 200 children. They got almost $1 million dollars in state subsidies in 2010.

The city has shut down the three centers for non-payment of earnings taxes or expired inspections. The state health department is moving to revoke the state licenses for those three. The social services department is auditing all five.
