Autumn weekend airwaves are filled with the sounds of Eli Gold who calls Bama football on the Crimson Tide Sports Network

When the Alabama Crimson Tide make their first football appearance at Faurot Field in Columbia this October, be prepared for a sea of crimson and white to descend upon mid-Missouri by the thousands as game day turns more into a weeklong affair for Bama fans.

Joining me on this week’s Pressbox Podcast is Eli Gold, the voice of the Crimson Tide Sports Network since 1998. Gold is familiar with the Show Me State. Back in the late 70’s, he was the television voice for St. Louis Blues hockey. Gold gives us his great insight on Mizzou’s move to the SEC and shares his thoughts on the all-SEC, BCS title game coming up on Monday.

I’m sure we all expected large numbers of fans from the SEC making the trek up north to Columbia, but Gold tells us that we can expect at least 10,000 Tide fans and expect plenty of motor homes pulling into town by the Tuesday before game day.

Gold says Mizzou will need time to adjust to the SEC, and he thinks most fans are ready to welcome the Tigers to their conference.  As he prepares for his radio broadcast of Alabama’s attempt to win a 14th national title, he has some strong words for the AP writers who say they will vote LSU number one regardless of who wins the rematch.
