Tiger fans…get ready for the Gator Chomp (PODCAST)

Jeff Cardozo, a Gainesville talk show host and commentator on the Gator Radio Network, said the reaction of most Gator fans is that they were happy to have Missouri in their division instead of Texas A & M. Despite Missouri being one of only eight programs in the country with eight wins or more in the last six years, the perception is that A & M is the tougher school. On November 3, 2012, Mizzou could give Florida fans their first opportunity to chomp on their words.

We keep hearing about how the East Division is the easier division of the two in the new SEC, but Georgia edged out South Carolina who  had a great year going 10-2 without their top running back and starting quarterback. Vandy is showing some life, and perhaps it was a transition year for the Gators, but this side of the SEC will still be a great challenge. Cardozo breaks down Mizzou’s East Division rivals.

State Fire Marshal: close call in O’Fallon points to CO2 dangers (AUDIO)

An O’Fallon family has survived a close call with carbon monoxide due to a furnace malfunction.

Four members of the family escaped the home after one woke up and experienced symptoms of CO2 poisoning.  Firefighters measured the levels in the home at 900 parts per million; a normal reading is zero.

A furnace repairman was called in and the four were treated at an area hospital.  They say they’ll get a carbon monoxide detector before sleeping in the home again.

Cole says one member of the family had to be carried out of the home they were so ill from the poison, and everyone is lucky to have survived the situation.

Rams expected to fire Spagnuolo after the season

NFL.com is reporting that Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo is expecting to be fired early next week after the Rams season finale against San Francisco. While owner Stan Kroenke hasn’t made any official announcements regarding staff changes, sources are saying that the team will go after former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher.

According to the report, Fisher’s agent is Marv Demoff, father of Kevin Demoff, an executive with the Rams. Don’t expect Spagnuolo to be out of job for any length of time. It’s likely he’ll end up back with the Eagles or Giants as a defensive coordinator where he held that title previously with both teams.

Mizzou’s SEC football schedule released

Four of Missouri’s first five conference football games will be at Faurot Field before the Tigers will end the season with three straight road games.  The first football schedule that includes Missouri and Texas A & M as the newest members of the Southeastern Conference has been released.  As reported last week, the Tigers will host the Georgia Bulldogs in their first ever SEC game Sept 8 in Columbia, MO.  After a road trip to Columbia, SC on Sept. 22, Mizzou will host Vandy, Alabama and Kentucky during the month of October.  The Tigers conclude SEC play at Florida, Tennessee and Texas A & M in the month of November.

Head coach Gary Pinkel released a statement saying,

“It’s good to see the schedule lined out on paper. Even though we just finished our season, this gets everyone excited to start preparing for the move.  We’re very pleased and honored to be joining such a successful and historically significant conference, and our program is looking forward to the challenges that we’ll face,” Pinkel said.

Absences hold up vote to nix police department

A vote has again been delayed on dissolving the Police Department for the St. Louis-area city of Dellwood.

Some City Council members want to contract with St. Louis County for law enforcement, but four members don’t and have refused to show up to several meetings to vote on the issue.

The tactic is also holding up a vote on the city’s budget, which is supposed to be ready to take effect at the beginning of the new year.
