Orton won’t bite on the talk of revenge

Chiefs quarterback Kyle Orton is not biting on the headlines the media is trying to make out of this game being Orton vs. Tebow and head coach Romeo Crennel made sure he reminded his team that this week the focus needs to be on the team.

“Every player that I know wants to play good against their old team,” Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said. “So he would like to play good and I’m sure he would like to win the game. And that’s what I told him, I said your job is to help your team win. It’s not Kyle versus the Broncos; it’s the Chiefs versus the Broncos so I think guys have to be reminded of that sometimes.”

KC bucks national trend of less violent crime

Trying to bring attention to Kansas City’s continued patterns of violence, community activist Alonzo Washington has made an Internet appeal for a date with Kim Kardashian. It’s nothing his wife needs to be nervous about; he wants to shine a national spotlight on the urban core.

Suspect as it sounds… he’s asking the reality TV star to join him along Prospect Avenue as the city’s homicide count (114 as of this morning) has already surpassed six of the last 10 years.

Ray Read of affiliate KCMO in Kansas City contributed to this report.

Three Rams named Pro Bowl alternates

Although the Rams were left off the final ballots for the 2011 Pro Bowl, they have three players who were selected to be alternates. Defensive end Chris Long, middle linebacker James Laurinaitis and running back Steven Jackson could still end up in Hawaii since the game is played before the Super Bowl and there tends to be several selected stars who opt out of playing the game.

“We had three guys that were recognized as alternates,” coach Steve Spagnuolo said. “To me, if you get recognized in this league at all in the conversation of Pro Bowl, I think is something we all ought to be proud of. The way they have it now with the Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl there is a decent chance that one, two, three of those guys might find their way into the game.”

New regulations for commercial truck drivers (AUDIO)

The National Transportation Department has released new regulations on what hours commercial truckers can drive.

Missouri’s Transportation Department spokesman Chuck Gohring says the new regulations, which decrease the number of hours truckers can work per week and restricts drivers from being on the road between 1 and 5 am, are to keep drivers safe.

He says the rules hadn’t changed in decades, and it was time for regulations to be updated. Also, another new regulation, this one created by Missouri’s transportation department, commercial truck drivers in Missouri are prohibited from using their mobile phones while on the road.

He says there hasn’t been a formal response from any truckers unions to his office, but thinks there probably will be.
