On Sunday, during the SEC Press Conference, Missouri’s Director of Athletics Mike Alden was asked about the possibility of continuing the MU-KU rivalry. Alden said there is no reason why it couldn’t keep going, yet after reading the comments out of Lawrence, it appears there are hard feelings over Mizzou’s move to the SEC.
According to CBS Sports, they quoted KU men’s basketball coach Bill Self on twitter as saying, “If in fact they want to play us, it will be strictly determined if we want to. It will not be determined by other people because I’ll be honest , the majority of Kansas fans don’t give a flip about playing Missouri.”
Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little commented on the University of Missouri’s decision to leave the Big 12 Conference and it was posted on the school’s official website. “We’re sorry to see a century-old conference rivalry end. Missouri’s decision may have implications for fans and for the Kansas City area, but it won’t affect the long-term strength of the Big 12.”
During the Big 12 football coaches teleconference, KU football coach Turner Gill sounded angry when asked if he saw the MU-KU rivalry continuing on the grid iron.Â
Alden doesn’t think it matters that MU and KU will not be in the same conference. He pointed to several rivalries between SEC schools and their rivals within state borders. Alden would like to see games with Kansas continue in all sports.
