Moberly City Councel discusses “Project Sugar”

The Moberly City Council passed two ordinances;  one calls for the $45,000 received from American Sucralose to be included as part of the cost reimbursement fund for Project Sugar and help provide for the city’s ability to cooperate with a joint investigation, lead by Attorney Daniel Vogel of St. Louis, the Attorney General’s Office and Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Fussellman.

The other ordnance authorizes the legal counsel, the city of Moberly and IDA personnel to cooperate with the joint investigation and maintain such information as confidential.

The Council approved the two actions by a unanimous vote;  Mayor Bob Riley and Mayor Pro-Tem Don Burton, along with Herb Lawrence and Dick Boots were in attendance; councilwoman Nancy Copenhaver participated by telephone.

Mayor Bob Riley and other members of the council would not comment  following the meeting.  However, the printed statement said additional information involving Project Sugar will be made available Tuesday, November 1st.

11th heaven. Cardinals win World Series (AUDIO)

The St. Louis Cardinals have won their 11th World Series in franchise history after defeating the Texas Rangers 6-2 in game seven. David Freese, who delivered the game winner in Game six, came through in the first inning to get the Cardinals started and wrapped up his season as the World Series MVP.

Chris Carpenter got the start on three days’ rest, just the second time he’s done that in his career and it was during this postseason run. Much like the first time against Philly, it was shaky. The first four hitters reached base as the Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead. It would have been 3-0, but Yadier Molina picked off former Missouri Tiger Ian Kinsler for the second time in this series after he led the game off with a single.

Anheuser-Busch reminds World Series revelers to celebrate responsibly

As the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers face off for Game Seven, Anheuser-Busch/InBev reminds fans to drink responsibly and always designate a sober driver, whether watching the game at the stadium or a favorite watering hole. AB / InBev is partnering with MLB and others to promote the message.

“Fan safety in the ballpark has always been a top priority for Major League Baseball,” said John McHale Jr., Executive Vice President, Administration & Chief Information Officer, Major League Baseball. “We are proud that our fans have taken an active role in supporting efforts to emphasize safety to and from the ballpark.”

Two lucky fans who signed a pledge to drink responsibly on the company’s website were rewarded with tickets to a World Series game. Crystal Skaggs and Ann Hester were selected as the grand prize winners of the “Responsibility Has Its Rewards” sweepstakes. Crystal Skaggs, a Cardinals fan from Troy, Ill., attended Game One at Busch Stadium on Wednesday night. Ann Hester, a Rangers fan from Dallas, went to Game Three at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Saturday night. They were randomly chosen from among the nearly 450,000 fans who pledged to be designated drivers, ensuring a safe ride home for their friends and family.

The top five MLB clubs for designated drivers in 2011 are:

  • Milwaukee Brewers: 57,811 designated drivers
  • St. Louis Cardinals: 56,445 designated drivers
  • Detroit Tigers: 31,613 designated drivers
