The Cardinals will miss left fielder Matt Holliday for this series at Philadelphia. He hurt a tendon in his middle finger while taking warm up swings in the on deck circle Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.

The Cardinals begin the weekend now just 5.5 games behind Milwaukee who is at Cincinnati and 4.5 behind Atlanta for the wild card which hosts the Mets, so looking at opponents, the Cardinals have the tougher weekend with just 13 games to play.

If the Cardinals can get through this weekend, the next homestand features the Mets and Cubs, two teams that give the Cards a shot at possibly taking four out of six, maybe even a sweep in there as well.

The Phillies have already clinched a playoff spot and start the series with Vance Worley, who continues to put his name in the mix for NL Rookie of the Year honors. He lost to the Brewers in his last start, a span of 14 starts in which the Phillies didn’t win when he took the ball. Jaime Garcia will start the four games series as the Cardinals are a season high 13 games over .500.
