Pittsburgh rookie Brad Lincoln pitched six scoreless innings and delivered an RBI double and walk in a 7-0 win on the Cardinals. It was the first time the Pirates shut out the Cardinals since an 11-0 victory in September of 2007.

Josh Harrison had a career-high three RBIs and matched his career best with three hits and Garrett Jones also had three hits with a pair of doubles and Neil Walker homered for Pittsburgh.

This was just one of those games for Carpenter. He lost for only the third time in 15 career decisions against Pittsburgh, going five innings while giving up six runs and nine hits. He allowed five or more earned runs at home for the first time since Sept. 15, 2010 against the Cubs.
