The Cardinals rallied from down 2-0 and 3-1 to tie the game, but Casey McGehee’s double in the 10th inning off Octavio Dotel gave the Milwaukee Brewers the lead and an eventual 5-3 win to increase their lead to four in the NL Central.
Albert Pujols was 0 for 5 and came into the game hitting .179 against Milwaukee and missed on a couple of chances to help his team. In the fifth after Corey Patterson delivered an RBI single with two outs, Pujols popped up to end the inning. Then in the ninth, against LaTroy Hawkins he popped out to right with two on and two outs.
Pujols wouldn’t talk after the game.
Milwaukee’s leadoff man Corey Hart gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead in the third with his 17th homer off Cards starter Edwin Jackson who gave up three runs, two earned in six innings.
Down 3-1 the Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles from David Freese and Gerald Laird off Brewers starter Shaun Marcum.
The Cardinals bullpen which has been shaky at times suffered a tough blow. Rookie reliever Lance Lynn injured a left side muscle in the eighth and is expected to land on the DL. Up to that point, he had retired five straight with three strikeouts.
