For a while, it looked the Cardinals were on their way to beating the rival Reds in the QueenCity.  Albert Pujols hit a 2 run shot in the 8th that gave St. Louis a 5-4 lead.  But, Cincinnati would have the last at bat and Brandon Phillips used it to hit a two run walk off shot to give the Reds a 6-5 win.

Fernando Salas would blow the save which is the 17th of the season forSt. Louis.  Other Cardinals runs would be driven in by David Freese, Jadier Molina, and Tony Cruz.

Jake Westbrook started the game forSt. Louis.  He would go five innings, giving up two runs on five hits.

Six other pitchers from the bullpen tried to keep the game close.  The only other Reds run was given up by Mitchell Boggs.

Even with the loss, the Redbirds remain in first place in the NL Central, tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Game two of the series is tonight as Chris Carpenter will get the start for the Cardinals.  The Reds will go with Bronson Arroyo.

St. Louis Cardinals game time is 7:10.
