The St. Louis County revenue director says the reason the county has not collected a major personal property tax bill for three years is because things “got a little mixed up.”

The Thomson-Reuters media group has paid $1.5 million in back taxes to clear the record. The company says it has been waiting for a bill from the county. Revenue Director Eugene Leung says he didn’t know which of six company subsidiaries should have gotten it.

The issue came to light when the St. Louis Post-Dispatch started asking questions about the unpaid taxes.
