Governor Nixon has signed legislation making it easier for adoptees to find their biological parents. The bill allows identifying information to be given to an adult adoptee or to his or her family if the adoptee is deceased, among other provisions.

Jefferson City Representative Jay Barnes handled the bill in the House. He says the issues faced by adoptees were too serious to ignore. He believes adoptees ought to be able to access that information, but says the bill does have some protections for parents.

Barnes feels Senate Bill 351 should not discourage those considering putting children up for adoption. It becomes law August 28th.
