Cardinals first basemen Albert Pujols took indoor batting practice and fielded ground balls before Monday’s game with the Reds and reported no pain in his left wrist. He’ll be examined Tuesday morning by team doctors and could be in the lineup later that night in game two of the Cardinals series with the Reds.

On Monday, Pujos said, “I can’t wait to get back on the field. Hopefully, it can be tomorrow. If it’s not, whenever the time comes will be the right time to play.”

Tuesday is the first day Pujols is eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list. He broke the wrist in a collision at first base trying to make a tag with his glove hand of the Royals’ Wilson Betemit on June 19.
