The President has issued a federal emergency declaration for the state of Missouri due to flooding on the Missouri River system.
The declaration clears the way for federal assistance for work and services to save lives and property. That includes supplying long-term shelter operations in communities that have evacuated homes, and providing technical assistance and equipment such as pumps, sandbags and sand.
The declaration covers 27 counties and the City of St. Louis.
