Things are bad for the Royals at Petco Park in San Diego. They lost 4-2 and they couldn’t beat Padres pitcher Clayton Richard who lost his eight previous starts at home, but last night, he held the Royals to five hits in seven innings. In fact, the Padres have lost the last 11 starts this guy has made at home. They say baseball is a funny game, but nothing funny about the Royals who have lost eight of their last 10 and all but one of those losses by two runs or less.

Jeff Francoeur homered and threw out a runner at home for the Royals, who have lost two straight and eight of 10. That’s 17 runners who have been gunned that at home this season and five in the last six games.

Former Cardinal, Ryan Ludwick hit an RBI single in the first inning. The Royals tied it in the second when Matt Treanor singled in Francoeur, who had walked and stolen second.
