The heat this weekend will be coming from more than fireworks in much of the state. Forecasted high temperatures have caused the National Weather Service to issue an excessive heat watch for Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening for the western half of the state. Readings are expected to be in the low to mid 90s, but it will feel more like 100 to 108 degrees. Heat related stress and illness are dangers, especially in urban areas. People are encouraged to drink plenty of non-alcoholic beverages, stay in air-conditioning, and check on relatives, the elderly and pets.
