A deathbed confession has cleared up a major theft case from an organization representing civilian employees of the St. Louis police department. Officers say Lucille Ellison confessed to embezzling at least $187,000 shortly before she died from pancreatic cancer. She admitted stealing money from the Civilian Personnel Division during the 30 years she worked for the department.

Investigators say she might have stolen more but they could only check records going back seven years.
