Northwest Missouri State hopes to have their new football coach this week after the death of Scott Bostwick, the longtime assistant to Mel Tjeerdsma who retired.

Given that the team is just two months away from the start of fall camp, I thought perhaps Tjeerdsma would come back for one more year, however, that is not an option.

According to the St. Joseph News Press, Tjeerdsma is already committed to return to Sherman, Texas, to work in a fundraising capacity at Austin College, where he coached for 10 seasons prior to Northwest. Next week, Tjeerdsma departs for Austria and will begin coaching the United States team in the 2011 International Federation of American Football World Championships.
