Governor Nixon has ordered the State’s Emergency Management Agency to find sand from elsewhere – quickly. Nixon’s spokesman Scott Holste says this order came after Nixon took an aerial tour of the northwestern part of the state.

Holste says the state has no idea how much it’s going to cost to get sand from other places, and the fact that this flooding will continue all summer doesn’t make it easier.

Holste says normally the state gets sand from the bottom of the river, but because it’s flooding and water is moving so quickly, we can’t do that.

Holste says the state will need hundreds of thousands of sandbags.
