All three phases of the Cardinals’ game looked bad last night. No hitting, poor defense and suspect pitching all added up to a 10-0 loss at Washington. I’ll start with Livan Hernandez, the veteran threw a three hit shutout. Only Jon Jay reached second base on a double.

Albert Pujols made two errors at third base and Tyler Greene made one at short. One of Pujols’ errors led to two unearned runs against Kyle McClellan who returned from the DL and gave up five runs total on seven hits in five innings.

The Nationals hit four home runs. One off McClellan, two off Ryan Franklin and the final one off Brian Tallet. Milwaukee beat the Cubs 9-5 to go up a game in the Central.

The Cardinals just can’t get healthy. Just as they are set to get Matt Holliday back, they’ll lose Allen Craig for 3 to 6 weeks with a broken bone in his knee. Eduardo Sanchez who was being used at the setup man to closer Fernando Salas could be headed for the DL with shoulder tightness. I read that if Sanchez goes on the DL, it will be the 13th time already this season the club has used the DL, matching the number of times they used it in all of 2010
