A soldier from Gainesville has been killed in Iraq. The Defense Department says Private-First-Class Matthew J. England was killed yesterday in An Najaf province by an improvised explosive device. England was a member of the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment based at Fort Hood Texas.
His family says he wanted to finish college and work for the CIA when he got out of the Army.
He graduated from Lutie High School in 2007. England was 22.
