The Mizzou track and field program wrapped up day one at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Senior Lars Rise finished day one of the decathlon in ninth place overall with 4,048 points. He is still within striking distance of a national title, just 223 points off the lead.

Senior Brian Hancock (Monroe City, Mo.) finished ninth nationally in the pole vault after clearing 5.25m (17-2 ¾). The ninth-place finish is a two-place improvement from the indoor season for the Tiger senior and garners him second-team All-America honors. The All-America nod is the fifth of Hancock’s career as he closes his stint with the Tigers as arguably the top pole vaulter in program history.

Making her first-ever appearance at the final round of the NCAA Championships, junior Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.) finished eighth in her heat in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.94. She missed qualifying for the event finals.
