Game one in the I-70 series goes to the Kansas City Royals as they shut out the St. Louis Cardinals last night at the K, 3-0. It would be a pitcher’s duel between Jeff Francis and Chris Carpenter until the 7th when KC would score all three of their runs on only one hit and two sac flys.

The hit came from Alcides Escobar and the fly balls from Brayan Pena and Melky Cabrera. Meanwhile the Cardinals would mange just six hits, two off the bat of Jon Jay.

Joakim Soria would shut down the Cards in the 9th to get his 7th save of the year.

Francis picks up his first win of the season, while Carpenter’s record falls to 1-4. His ERA is now just a shade below 5.

Game two is this afternoon as Jake Westbrook will get the ball for St. Louis against the Royals Nathan Adcock.

First pitch is 1:10.
