The Royals rallied but lost in 11 innings to the Texas Rangers, 5-4. Danny Duffy made his major league debut for the Royals and it was mixed results. He only went four innings throwing 94 pitches, but only allowed two runs despite four hits and six walks.

Louis Coleman, Tim Collins and Aaron Crow all held the Rangers to one hit until the ninth when Joakim Soria gave up a run to give Texas a 3-2 lead. Mike Hosmer homered in the bottom of the 9th, but Texas scored two in the 11th. The Royals got one back but came up short losing their fifth in a row. The Royals placed starting pitcher Kyle Davies on the DL with shoulder tightness.
