High water has forced the Caruthersville animal shelter to move its animals to a temporary shelter in Kennett.
The population at the shelter increased as residents dropped off their pets as the owners’ homes were threatened by flooding. A shelter spokesman says about 80 percent of the animals are those dropped off by their owners. Most of the rest are animals that have been rescued — including a couple of horses.
